OMAX Waterjet

Falcon International is pleased to announce the addition of the OMAX waterjet into our operations. The OMAX waterjet cutting system is a CAD based system using high pressure water and abrasives to cut just about any type of material to any configuration specified by our customers. This state of the art technology will allow us to provide our customers the quality, value and flexibility they deserve.

The Advantages of Waterjet Cutting

Versatility
Cuts can be made to just about any configuration provided with a variety of extremely hard, reflective and nonconductive materials including:

  • Aluminum
  • Ceramics
  • Composites
  • Copper
  • Exotic Alloys
  • Glass
  • Hardened Tool Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Steel
  • Granite, Marble and other Stone
  • Titanium
  • Wood
  • Plastic
  • Rubber
  • Foam

Precision
Using a combination of advanced computer algorithms the waterjet can make exactly what you want and faster than you thought possible. The system uses a computer-controlled stream of water moving at Mach 2.5 (1875mph), or two and a half times the speed of sound.

Accuracy & Repeatability
Precise and intricate shapes are made from virtually any material with tolerances of +/- .003”. No burrs, stresses or heat affected zones are formed due to the minimal amount of heat produced during the cutting process.

Capabilities
Cutting capacity is up to 8” thick of material. The table size is capable of handling up to 55” x 100” of material

Fast Turnaround
Transition quickly from drawing to finished part. Preparation time is minimized since there is no wait for fixtures and dies to be made. OMAX waterjet economically machines lots as small as one piece.

Smooth Finish
Waterjet cuts have a smooth finish which eliminates the need for secondary processing on simple and complex parts.

No Minimum Order
The technology behind the waterjet allows for highly accurate production for quantities as small as one item.

How it Works

Two methods of waterjet cutting can be used with the OMAX: "Waterjet" cutting and "Abrasive jet" cutting.

Waterjet cutting handles soft or thin materials such as foam or aluminum; Abrasivejet cuts through hard or thick materials with the addition of a garnet abrasive. When using abrasives for harder materials, the cutting action is a grinding process, but rather than using a solid grinding wheel, the forces and motions of the cutting action are provided by water.

The OMAX waterjet pressurizes water up to 55,000 pounds per square inch (psi) [379,000 kiloPascals (kPa)] and then forces it through a small sapphire orifice at 2500 feet (762 meters) per second, or about two and half times the speed of sound.
